Background Information Name: Emma Date of Observation: October 5th 2015 Age: 6 Time of Observation: 8:00 am to 9:00 am Sex: Female Location: Benjamin Franklin Elementary Foreword With the permission of the school and Emmaââ¬â¢s parents I was fortunate to conduct a naturalistic observation of my cousin Emma in her kindergarten class room. During the hour two main activities transpired a drawing activity and a building activity. The drawing activity was split into two 15 minute portions. An individual portion and a group portion. During the individual portion each child was to draw and color, a picture then they were asked to label what they drew. Later the children were put into groups of three or for they shared a piece of paper and wereâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This paper mainly highlights observations made during the activities that are relevant to three developmental domains of interest for a child of Emmaââ¬â¢s age. The three main domains being Physical, Socio-emotional, and Cognitive. Physical Domain During both exercises Emma displayed her abilities in her physical development of motor skills, of which she had very appropriate capabilities for a child of her age. Physical development as defined by Six Developmental Domains. (2011) ââ¬Å"â⬠¦is to do with movement: gross, or large, movement of limbs and fine manipulative movement of fingers. Physical development depends on growth of the body and nervous system so that messages from the brain can be carried to the muscles to stimulate them to move.â⬠During the hour Emma displayed gross and fine motor skills while drawing and building with her Lego blocks. Gross motor development is defined as ââ¬Å"the attainment of skills such as rolling over, sitting up crawling, walking and running.â⬠Perceptual and Motor Development Domain. (2015). Gross motor skills involve the use of larger muscles such as arms and legs of which Emma did use whilst completing her activities. Use of her legs to get to the Lego piles that had the parts she needed as well as using her arms to move her hands to be able to pick up the Legoââ¬â¢s and markers. Use of her fingers was a display of fine motor skills. Fine motor skills has to do with smaller movements typically
